LED lighting is one of the promising areas of artificial light technology, based on the use of LEDs as a source of light.
A little history of LED lighting:
The active use of these light sources in Ukraine began only at the beginning of the 2000s, although LED backlighting began to be used as early as the beginning of the 1990s.
Soon the use of LED lamps in lighting began to occupy a significant market share. The development of LED lighting is directly related to the technological evolution of the LED. The so-called super-bright LEDs, specially designed for artificial lighting, have been developed.
LED lighting is used in lighting equipment to create designer lighting in modern design projects for interiors, office and industrial premises, for lighting furniture, etc. Reliability of LED light sources makes it possible to use them in hard-to-access places for frequent replacement (built-in ceiling lighting, inside stretch ceilings and t etc.).
Advantages of light-diodes:
In comparison with conventional incandescent lamps, as well as fluorescent lamps, LEDs have many advantages:
Economical. Economically they use energy in comparison with previous generations of electric light sources – arc, glow and gas discharge. Thus, the light output of LED street lighting systems with a resonant power supply reaches 120 lumens per watt, which is comparable to the output of sodium gas-discharge lamps – 150-220 lumens per watt. Fluorescent lamps have a light output of 60-100 lumens per watt, and incandescent lamps – 10-24 lumens per watt (including halogen).
Durability. With the optimal circuitry of power supplies and the use of high-quality components, the average lifetime of LED lighting systems can be brought up to 100,000 hours, which is 50-200 times more compared to mass incandescent lamps and 4-16 times more than most fluorescent lamps.
Wide color assortment. The ability to obtain various spectral characteristics without the use of light filters (as in the case of incandescent lamps).
Safety of use.
Ecological compatibility. The absence of mercury vapors (unlike gas-discharge fluorescent lamps and other devices), which excludes mercury poisoning during processing and during operation.
Low ultraviolet and infrared radiation.
Minor heat dissipation (for low-power devices).
-Stability to vandalism.
Among the manufacturers, it is the LED light sources that are considered the most functional and promising direction both in terms of energy efficiency, and cost and practical application. Mostly white light-emitting diodes are used.
Disadvantages of photodiodes lighting:
o Expensive. The main drawback of using LEDs until recently was the price, but time is running out, the technologies are getting cheaper and now diode lighting is just as affordable as the classic ones for lamps, and if you take into account the savings in electricity and lamp replacement, it becomes obvious that now the most economical lighting – LED light.
o.Necessity to use additional power supplies. The supply voltage of the LED is significantly less than the supply voltage of conventional incandescent lamps. Therefore, the LEDs are connected in series or using voltage converters.
o Low temperature limit: powerful lighting LEDs require an external radiator for cooling, because they have an unfavorable ratio of their sizes to the heat output (the physical dimensions of the LEDs are small at high power of the scattered radiation) and can not dissipate as much heat as is emitted (despite even more high efficiency than incandescent lamps). A 10-watt LED light requires a passive radiator the size of a Pentium 4 microprocessor without a fan. Such a large radiator not only increases the cost of the construction, but it can hardly be entered into the format of household lighting devices.
o To supply a single LED from the mains supply, a low-voltage DC power supply, also with a radiator, is needed, which additionally increases the volume of the luminaire, and its availability further reduces overall reliability and requires additional protection. Therefore, many developers are limited to the rectifier, and the LEDs are connected in series.
o High pulsation coefficient of the light flux when powered directly from the power frequency network without a smoothing capacitor, in the presence of pulsation it is small.
o The spectrum is different from the solar one. At the same time, this disadvantage is less significant in comparison with luminescent lamps, because it is invisible due to the peculiarities of human perception and with properly selected phosphors.
